DAVISVILLE 1905 - The Year the Town Woke Up

BY JOHN LOFLAND and JIM BECKET

“DAVISVILLE 1905 - The Year the Town Woke Up” is the title of a traveling exhibit under construction at the Hattie Weber Museum by John Lofton, Senior Designer, and Jim Becket, of the Davis Historical Society.

The exhibit will open at the First Northern Bank in Davis on September 14, between 6 and 8 PM. It is temporarily available for “sneak previews” during the hours the Hattie Weber is open on Saturdays, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The exhibit consists of three double sided 4 X 8 panels, with 16 “topics” displayed in irregular columns on both sides of the panels. Utilized are photographs of both scenes and documents from that time period, with the focus on the town’s preoccupation with securing the University State Farm site for Davisville. Reproductions of actual columns from the Davisville Enterprise contribute to much of the display, as Editor William Scott was the town’s primary booster. Two other documents, excerpts from George W. Pierce Jr.’s daily journal and the “Ideal Spot” Booklet, a promotional piece, are also featured.
