Exhibit: Davis Schools between 1870 and 2009
Davis schools between 1870 and 2009 exhibit will open on Saturday October 31, 2009. There will be light refreshments served at a reception from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and all community members welcome.
Some of the things you will be able to see on exhibit are a high school dance card or a McGuffey reader.
“ You can also ring a school bell, find out how Davis kids avoided being Woodland High School graduates, see a teacher wearing a Civil War jacket and pay tribute to Valley Oak School.”
“Pictures and mementos of the entire elementary, junior high and high schools in Davis since shortly after the town was founded are on display. You might even find yourself in the copies of the yearbook pictures from Davis High School.”
Also featured at the museum are the beginnings of a display on “Distinguished Alumni of Davis High School.” Museum officials are asking for the community’s help to complete this.
“We’d also like to know what happened to the bell tower (and the bell) from the old Davis High School and exactly where the first Montgomery School was located. The loan or gift of Davis High School mementos from the 1990’s and the early 2000’s would be appreciated.”
The Hattie Weber Museum of Davis is operated by the Yolo County Historical Society for the Davis Community. It is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Admission is free. The museum welcomes donations and help with the exhibits, cataloging and other tasks performed by the volunteer staff.
